Product Description

The Optris CTratio 1M stands as a stalwart in the realm of temperature measurement, offering a robust and precise solution for non-contact temperature monitoring across a broad spectrum of high temperatures, ranging from 450 °C to 3000 °C (842 °F to 5432 °F). Engineered with meticulous attention to detail, this advanced fiber-optical ratio thermometer is available in three distinct models, namely 1ML, 1MH, and 1MH1, each tailored to address specific measurement requirements with unparalleled accuracy and reliability.

At the heart of the CTratio’s exceptional performance lies its innovative ratio-based measurement principle. Unlike conventional single-color pyrometers that rely solely on intensity measurements, the CTratio employs a dual-color approach, measuring infrared radiation at two closely spaced wavelengths. By evaluating the relationship between these two intensities, the CTratio ensures consistent and repeatable temperature measurements, even in challenging conditions where emissivity may be unknown or vary with temperature.

This ratio-based methodology offers several distinct advantages over single-color devices. For instance, this pyrometer remains resilient in adverse conditions, such as when the measuring spot is partially on the object or when obstacles like dust, smoke, or steam are present in the optical path. Moreover, the CTratio’s ability to accurately measure temperatures when the object is not fully within the pyrometers field of view or is in rapid motion underscores its versatility and reliability in demanding industrial environments.

Aligning the CTratio for optimal performance is a breeze, thanks to its integrated green laser, which provides real-time spot size indication at any distance. This feature simplifies sensor alignment, even on surfaces emitting intense red glow. Additionally, the CTratio boasts motorized focus capability, allowing for adjustable focusing from 150 mm (5.9 in) to infinity. This flexibility enables users to effortlessly focus on targets at varying distances, catering to diverse measurement needs.

The optical resolution of the CTratio varies across its models, with the 1ML offering an optical resolution of 38:1 and the 1MH and 1MH1 models providing a higher resolution of 100:1. This variability ensures precise targeting and measurement of small objects or areas, enhancing the instrument’s utility across a wide range of industrial applications.

In terms of accuracy and reliability, the CTratio excels with a system accuracy of ±0.5% of the reading + 2 °C (±0.5% of the reading + 4 °F), measured at an ambient temperature of 23 ± 5 °C (23 ± 41 °F). Additionally, the infrared sensors repeatability, measured under similar ambient conditions, is ±0.3% of the reading, guaranteeing consistent performance over repeated measurements.

Safety and durability are paramount considerations in industrial environments, and the CTratio addresses these concerns admirably. Featuring an electrically isolated sensing head, the instrument ensures enhanced safety and reliability, while the infrared thermometers rugged stainless-steel housing withstands the rigors of industrial settings.

Designed and manufactured in Germany, the CTratio embodies precision engineering and uncompromising quality. Its adaptability, durability, and accuracy make it the go-to choice for critical temperature control in industries such as metal and semiconductor manufacturing. With comprehensive support for various analog and digital outputs, seamless integration into industrial processes is assured.

In conclusion, the Optris CTratio 1M epitomizes excellence in non-contact temperature sensing technology. Its superior performance, coupled with advanced features and unmatched reliability, makes this pyrometer an indispensable tool for precise thermal monitoring in the most demanding industrial environments.

    FAQs

How do I focus the CTratio?

The CTratio pyrometer is equipped with a vario optics. This enables you to focus the device from a distance of 300 mm (11.81 in) to infinity. To focus the sensor, loosen the knurled screw on the head. Now you can focus the device on the passive infrared sensor head. After alignment, tighten the knurled screw. This secures the focus. By turning the rotary button clockwise, you will change the focus in direction far. By turning counterclockwise, you will change the focus in direction close.

How do I connect or disconnect the fiber optical cable?

When mechanically connecting the fiber to the sensor head and the electronics box, the correct pairing must be ensured. Both connections are labeled with the corresponding side (“Head” and “Box”). To connect the fiber correctly, plug the cable into the device and turn the fiber until it locks into place. Then fix the cable with the knurled screw Never pull on the fiber. This can damage and destroy the fiber. When removing the fiber, the screw connection must be loosened first.

What is the bending radius on the fiber?

Please make sure that the minimum bending radius of the fiber optics is 29 mm (1.14-inch) for 1MH/1MH1, and 80 mm (3.15 in) for 1ML will be considered during installation.

What do you do if the fiber is broken?

The device must be sent in if the fiber or measuring head is defective. A recalibration is necessary.

How to replace the fiber-optical cable?

For a fast field exchange max. two spare fibers of the same length including optical sensing head can be ordered together with the main CTratio unit. As they will be adjusted together with the CTratio a subsequent order of spare fibers is not possible.

How do I aim with a CTratio?

The integrated laser sighting supports the alignment and focusing of the optics. The size of the laser dot is equal to the real measurement spot size at any distance.

    Is the laser dangerous?

The pyrometers laser is a class 2 laser with less than 1mW in the wavelength range of 500 nm to 650nm, according to EN 60825 1:2014. Do not point the laser directly at the eyes of persons or animals! Do not stare into the laser beam. Avoid indirect exposure via reflective surfaces.

    Does the laser switch off?

At ambient temperatures >50 °C (>122 °F) the laser will be switched off automatically. The laser should only be used for sighting and positioning of the sensor. A permanent use of the laser can reduce the lifetime of the laser diodes and might heat up the sensor.

Can I trigger the laser externally?

Yes, but the supply line for the sighting laser must be led via a switch or pushbutton, which has to be installed max 2 m (6.56 ft) away from installation site of the sensor for safety purposes. The laser can be activated/ deactivated via this, by the user on site to be installed switch, or via the software.

Can I use the CTratio as a 2-wire sensor?

Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CTratio is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.

Can I use the USB interface permanently?

The USB socket built into the side is only intended for setting up the sensor and any subsequent changes to the settings. Permanently plugging and unplugging the USB cable can cause damage. The USB interface is not designed for continuous use. For this purpose, please use the optionally available USB interface ACCTMIAC.

How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?

In the CT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.
