Product Description
The CS LT Pyrometer is an advanced yet budget-friendly infrared sensor, designed to offer dependable and cost-effective temperature measurements. The pyrometer delivers precise, non-contact temperature measurements for a wide range of industrial applications. Equipped with a thermopile detector, the CS LT Pyrometer operates within a spectral bandwidth of 8-14µm, making the infrared sensor an excellent choice for measuring high-emissivity targets, even at low temperatures.
The Optris CL LT Pyrometer is versatile and widely used across numerous applications, and is commonly employed in the thermoforming process of foil, plastic processing, machine condition monitoring, and overheating equipment alarms. Additionally, this infrared sensor serves as an invaluable tool for preventive electrical maintenance, helping to detect potential outages.
With a high distance-to-spot size ratio of 15:1, the CS LT Pyrometer ensures accurate measurements of small spot sizes from a distance, covering a temperature range from -50 °C to 1030 °C. These cost-effective pyrometers are ideal for machine builders and manufacturing environments, supporting analog voltage, digital alarms, serial communication over RS232, and thermocouple (type K) outputs, seamlessly integrating temperature data into control systems.
Due to its low pricing and ease of use, the CS LT Pyrometer has become a popular alternative to traditional contact-based temperature sensing applications.
The CS LT Pyrometer stands out due to its low pricing and ease of use, making the infrared sensor a popular alternative to traditional contact-based temperature sensors. The unique thermal shock-resistant design ensures reliable measurements even in challenging conditions, unlike other low-budget sensors. The robust stainless steel measuring head, with an M12x1 thread, is easy to install in tight hot spaces without extra cooling, up to 80 °C. The compact sensing head measures just 85 mm in length and 12 mm in diameter. Additionally, the LED lighting on the back of the sensor serves as a visual alarm or error indicator, enhancing its functionality and reliability.
Configuration, fine-tuning settings, and the setup of the sensor are supported through the optional USB kit and the Compact Connect software, available for free download. Additionally, the USB kit and software offer convenient recording of temperature measurements over time. For quick commissioning, temperature measurements and changes over time can also be displayed on the Optris IR mobile app, available for free on Google Play.
The CS LT pyrometer can also be equipped with Optris accessories, including air purging, a laser sighting tool, mounting flanges, and close-focus optics. These accessories enable temperature measurements of small spot-size targets from a close distance.
These pyrometers are designed and manufactured in Germany, carefully calibrated to government standards such as PTB or NIST. For large-quantity OEM customers, customization options, such as different cable sizes, are available. As with all Optris products, application engineers are on hand to discuss industrial applications and provide after-sales support.

Areas of Application
Software
The Optris CompactConnect software improves the functionalities of Optris fixed infrared pyrometers, offering various monitoring, analysis, and control features beyond basic temperature measurement. It includes features like visualizing temperature trends with temperature-time diagrams and documentation. The software enables data logging, automatic process controls, parameterization of the pyrometer via configuration settings, and setting up programmable outputs and inputs. Additionally, it provides advanced signal-processing functionalities.
Compact Connect
The Optris IR mobile allows users to set up and commission an Optris infrared pyrometer or infrared camera with an Android smartphone or tablet. This tool becomes handy for commissioning and aligning the infrared cameras field of view or adjusting the configuration. The app analyzes the connected infrared cameras live infrared image stream with auto hot and cold spot detection. For pyrometers, a temperature-time diagram or the video signal is displayed. This app works on most Android devices running 5.0+ with a USB port supporting USB-OTG (On The Go).

FAQs
How do you set up the thermocouple output of the CS LT?
Setting up the CS LT’s thermocouple output is straightforward. Begin by connecting the CS LT to the optris CS kit (ACCSMIAC) and installing the software CompactConnect. To do so, connect each wire of the USB adapter cable with the same colored wire of the sensor cable by using the terminal block. Once the USB adapter is connected, the thermocouple output must be enabled in the software CompactConnect. After saving the configuration, the CS LT can be disconnected from the USB adapter and powered with an external power supply (5-30V). The thermocouple type K output is the green and white wires marked with an additional label.
What is the thermocouple output?
The thermocouple output supplies a voltage according to the thermocouple characteristic curve type K.
How do you extend the cable length of the thermocouple output?
A suitable thermocouple extension cable (NiCr-Ni) must extend the thermocouple outlets.
How can I change the scaling, emissivity, or other settings?
The Optris CS kit (ACCSMIAC) and the software CompactConnect must be used to change the pyrometers settings.
Can I set up the CS LT pyrometer for digital communication?
The optional USB programming kit is required for digital communication. Using the terminal block, connect each wire of the USB adapter cable with the same colored wire of the sensor cable. The sensor offers bidirectional and unidirectional digital communication. Bidirectional communication allows for the sending and receiving of data between the sensor and a computer. Unidirectional communication supports a fast burst mode of data in which the sensor only sends data.
Does the CS LT support an RS232 communication?
Yes, for a bidirectional RS232 connection of the sensor, an additional interface board (recommended MAX3381E) is needed. MAX3381E
Does the CS LT support an open collector output?
Yes, an additional open collector output is supported. The open collector output is an additional alarm output on the CS LT. In addition, the simultaneous analog output is an open collector output and can trigger an external relay, for example. In the case of long wires, there might be a voltage drop at the ground wire, and the mV output is distorted. The brown wire can be used as a ground supply, and the thermocouple wire can be used as a ground.
Can I connect the CS LT to a smartphone to adjust the settings?
The CS LT sensor can connect directly to an Android smartphone or tablet. The IR mobile application monitors and analyses infrared temperature measurements on a connected Android smartphone or tablet. The phone powers the CS LT pyrometer.
When can I use the CS LT after powering?
The CS LT has a warm-up time. At a supply voltage (Vcc) ≥ 12 V, the sensor takes about 5 minutes to work in a stable mode. Therefore, the LED will show an alarm state for up to 5 minutes after switching on the unit.
How far can I position the CS LT from the target?
The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. The object should fill out the optics’ field of view to prevent measuring deviations. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or smaller. The spot size refers to 90 % of the radiation energy.
Which changes have to be selected if a close-focus lens is used?
The optional CF lens allows the measurement of small objects. If the CF lens is used, the transmission has to be set to 0.78. The optional USB kit (including software) must change this value. The assigned transmission (average value) is a characteristic value that may have a certain scattering. If required, the transmission has to be determined experimentally.
What is the function of the green LED at the end of the sensor?
The green LED can be programmed for the following functions: alarming, aiming support, self-diagnostic, and temperature Code indication. The USB adapter cable and software are necessary for the configuration. The factory default setting for the LED is self-diagnostic.
What LED at the end of the sensor is always on?
In the self-diagnostic mode, if the LED is always-on or always-on with short breaks, the sensor indicates that is not stable yet due to ambient temperature changes or is in an error mode.
